Preventive dentistry at 207 Dental Care

At 207 Dental Care the aim of all our staff is the same- to work closely with you to help protect the health of your teeth and gums in the long-term.

Most of us are well aware of the phrase ‘prevention is better than cure’ and this is very true with our dental care too.

Did you know that the biggest cause of tooth loss in adults is gum disease?

Gum disease is caused by the build-up of plaque on teeth over time. Plaque can be removed by your hygienist at your regular hygiene appointments.  It’s as simple as that! We’re not saying that you’ll avoid getting gum disease completely (you can never tell who might get it) but you could significantly reduce your chances. Plus if the signs are picked up early there is a much better chance of successful treatment.

Likewise, the need for large fillings can be avoided by spotting cavities when they are smaller, damage to crowns and veneers can be picked up early and any signs of mouth cancer can be detected at an earlier stage- often resulting in much improved chances of survival.

It’s important for you to visit us regularly- even if you wear full dentures. Remember that the health of your gums is also important in ensuring your dentures fit comfortably and securely in the future.

We recommend that you visit the dentist at least once a year (every 6 months if necessary). It is also advised that you see the hygienist at six monthly intervals. Some patients will need more check-ups, others need less – we’ll advise you accordingly.

We can also advise and treat you for bad breath to help rid you of worries about unpleasant smells that can come from unwanted bacteria in your mouth.

Our dentists will:

  • Thoroughly check over your teeth and gums looking out for any cavities etc and signs of gum disease.
  • Check for any damage to fillings and false teeth such as veneers, crowns, bridges and implants.
  • Apply sealants to protect specific teeth if required.
  • Look out for any changes in your mouth which could indicate cancer.

Our hygienists will:

  • Professionally clean your teeth removing any plaque build-up
  • Show you how to look after you mouth- giving tips and advice.
  • Point out any problem areas that need extra attention.
  • Keep an eye on your gums and look out for signs of gum disease
  • Keep your mouth feeling fresh and help avoid bad breath.
